Bein' Real
One of the most important lessons I've learned throughout my 23 years on this Earth is that growth and progression requires patience. It's easy to the see the successes of others and fall into a pit of self-deprecation and high expectations. However, what I didn't realize is that for one, the success of others is irrelevant, which alluding to the expectations of my culture is quite a new philosophy. In Indian dogma, the success of others means the deprivation of yourself. While this may be true in India and many third world countries, this philosophy "may" not apply here. Now I say "may", as I am still quite young and have a lot to learn from life. But from my experiences thus far, focusing on the success of others can inhibit the development of the self. It's important to find your weaknesses and honestly accept your deficiencies because only then can you go on to address them. If one is constantly worried about whose getting ahead you're spending the majority of your energy and time fawning over others rather than working on yourself. It's important to set your own standards, independent of others. More importantly growth and progression is slow, comprising of constant failure and incremental increase. So i guess the bottom line comes down to not being afraid of failing. Failing is essential for growth, and only through failure can one really progress. Success doesn't happen overnight.
